Aeration

WHAT WE DO

THE SCIENCE OF AREATION

Lawn care can be a difficult task to accomplish for the average homeowner. It can take a great deal of time, and some procedures are considered to be a science. At Lawn Doc we are highly specialised in the aeration process and will provide only the highest quality of treatment options. One area that needs to be addressed when understanding the health of your lawn is the aeration process known as tinning. To better appreciate the benefits of this process, it should be examined in a bit more detail, as there are many different options.

AERATION WILL RESULT IN A HEALTHIER OVERALL APPEARANCE AND BETTER WEED MANAGEMENT.

CARRIED OUT BETWEEN MARCH AND OCTOBER TO RELIEVE COMPACTION AND ENCOURAGE GROWTH

TINNING

Solid tinning involves driving a solid metal spike into a lawn; sometimes as much as six inches deep. This can relieve soil that is slightly compacted and is employed in areas that are hard and dry.

Hollow tinning will remove the core of the soil with the application of a hollow spike. Hollow tinning is great for soil that is severely compacted. Once the cores are removed, loam or sand is then brushed into the holes that have been produced. This reduces compactness.

Slit tinning is commonly used because less compaction will be produced after this process. Another benefit is that as the walls of the hole are much larger, a considerable amount of pruning of the grass will simultaneously take place. Not only can this allow for greater levels of soil aeration, but also slit tinning helps to encourage new growth.

THE RESULTS OF AERATION

Lawn Doc is happy to provide these services to a growing number of customers. The end results will be a healthier lawn that is able to maintain adequate levels of growth. Over time, the entire garden will be easier to manage. So, it is clear that these processes are all quite critical in achieving a robust and visually appealing lawn.

THE PROCESS

These processes allow the greater access of air and nutrients and when used in conjunction with fertilisers, result in a healthier overall appearance and better weed management.
